Today was Puffin's big day...Vanessa and Philip were able to borrow Lisa's trailer again (thank you very much again everyone!) to take Puffin to the beautiful nature reserve which our ponies graze for the Devon Wildlife Trust. It's such an amazing site and it's such a privilege being able to enable our ponies live on one of the most perfect sites you could imagine - a wonderful habitat with all the right plants for them to self select and living as nature intended. It's fully fenced so that it's safe (no cliff edges), there's lots of room for them and they get checked every day by Gary and Jane and the local walkers. They get to "BE PONIES"...again just as nature intended. It's such a special place!
Vanessa led Puffin down onto the reserve to where we had located the ponies...and then once the ponies had seen each other, it was time for the release...
First Sightings...Breeze and Star in the distance and part of Puffin's bottom pictured in the foreground! |
Puffin is released...a bit unsure! |
...Breeze comes to say "Hello!"... |
...With Star following shortly behind... |
...First meetings... |
...Getting down to the important pony business... |
Breeze and Puffin look like they are going to be the best of friends! |
Star tends to hang in the background - she has earnotches and is always wary when there's a human around! |
Lots of beautiful lichens about |
So we'll be back to see the ponies in the late Spring for their annual round-up. Thank you so much to everyone for making the day such a great success. It's a beautiful sight to see the ponies here and so happy. Margaret looked after the yard so everything was organised there too.
Margaret and Norman who fostered Puffin for 10 years were able to visit him twice whilst he was with us at the main yard - they came to see him yesterday which was really lovely...they hope to visit Puffin on the reserve soon!

I love the first video of Breeze and Puffin moving together. They are exhibiting perfect synchronicity, they will be great friends. What a lovely site and sight. How wonderful if all horses and ponies had access to this life style, they look so happy emotionally and physically. Well done Faye for giving them a chance. (PS I thought Star was OLD, she's been in touch with Topsy I think!!)
That's really great to see Puffin with the others, out on the reserve. Wonderful pictures and videos - well done everyone !
