After last Wednesday's storm and poor Catherine, Ted, and Jenny worrying that the stable roof might fly off (which thankfully it didn't!) we've really been enjoying the sunny, dry, calm weather. Babe's progressed to going out for her first walks - which she was really well behaved for. Her soles are strengthening and for a pony with pedal bone rotation in all 4 feet she's been making remarkable progress. It's a balancing act - enabling her to do more but not too much. Roy visited us today and enjoyed meeting Babe and all the ponies. He's very keen to help with the mucking out, haynets, sweeping and yard activities. Thank you to Margaret who went on an emergency excursion for apples today as we'd completely run out!
On a more sombre note...this week has also brought news of welfare cases in different locations - appalling lack of knowledge, skill and action from the authorities. We can't publish much now, ponies are dying from starvation, others lying dead despite the Animal Welfare Act...in the meantime this video from North Devon "went viral" last week and highlights the sort of experience that those working in animal welfare and rescue centres come across on a regular basis. This week we will be submitting evidence to the EFRA inquiry into the Animal Welfare Act and whether it is working...

The people4ponies organisation was founded in 2003 in order to support and rehabilitate a large group of wild and traumatised ponies. It is run by volunteers and funded by their generosity, money-raising events, merchandise sales, pony sponsorship and donations.
Our main base is located near Witheridge, in Devon, where at any one time there are a number of ponies being rehabilitated. Ponies which are very traumatised stay with us for life, as they would not cope with "normal" homes. Others are educated to the point where they can be re-homed. The methods used are non-confrontational and innovative and the pony/human relationship is constantly being explored and re-evaluated for mutual benefit.
