from Dartmoor once they come off the moor?
Can you help us fill in some of the missing information?…They don’t all go
to good homes…these are some of the things we know happen and have happened…

** ZOO MEAT – “Farms are not set up for humane
slaughter. Ponies are shot in all kinds
of set ups. Some go through a cattle
crush, others are done in a yard or lorry where they see what’s coming. Watching one die before the next. Mares separated only a small distance away
often within ear shot and within view.
The mares go back out onto the moor and shout for days {for their
foals}. The shooting of ponies is used a breeding management tool. Year after year, having foals to shoot them, how stupid is that?”

The Guardian reported previously how the unborn foetuses are
cut from the carcasses of adult mares as part of the processing.

£33,000 was raised for equipment for processing
pony meat. Pandas are rare and kept in zoos, zebras are rare and kept
in zoos but “Dartmoor Hill Ponies” are marketed by Dartmoor as rare (often
quoted as only 1200 left) – and killed to feed other zoo animals rather than
being valued as individuals themselves.

**SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH – An expose in 2016 showed that
Dartmoor and Welsh ponies were used in experiments where pregnant mares gave
birth and then their foals were involved in medical experiments. Cambridge University bought ponies direct from
a farmer. The study was funded by the
Horserace Betting Levy Board. We have
found this study: “https://www.researchgate.net/publication/259723375_Sex-associated_differences_in_pancreatic_b_cell_function_in_healthy_preweaning_pony_foals”.

We had an anonymous report of a shipment of ponies being
sold from a farm on Dartmoor to Scotland for scientific research – FOIs did not find them in veterinary
institutions. Does anyone have any more
info or knowledge about ponies going for research purposes?

** THE FARMERS’ PONY MEAT SCHEME – Trying to convince the UK
general public to eat horsemeat rather than stop the irresponsible breeding
practices. Is “Preserving a pony” keeping it alive or preserving it in a
freezer?! Do your own research about who
is involved and whether you think it is ethical…

**DRUMS – marketed as being the “<span face=""Trebuchet MS", sans-serif" style="background: white; font-size: 10pt;">Symbol
of the ponies' voice...calling you to listen to their cry for support to help
them continue looking after Dartmoor<span face=""Trebuchet MS", sans-serif" style="background: white; font-size: 10pt;">". We
know that in 2013<span face=""Trebuchet MS", sans-serif" style="background: white; font-size: 10pt;"> Dartmoor Hill pony hides were being priced at £250
each.

**THE UNDERGROUND – This, we suspect, applies not just to
ponies from Dartmoor but those from Bodmin too, and possibly beyond. Once you start asking questions and doing
FOIs it becomes blatantly clear the numbers don’t add up…and sometimes the UK
government or agencies won’t even answer basic questions. EVERY year there are still reports of lorries
full of ponies going out of the country via Ireland and this year is no
different. Before it was part of the
Horse Meat Scandal, the dealers mysteriously disappearing from the markets once
it was exposed. We also know that one

this year’s ponies right now – seen lorries, heard the “word on the ground” –
what have you heard? Last year a whole
herd of Bodmin ponies disappeared overnight and the ponies could not be traced
at all – not even to slaughterhouses in this country and no change of ownership
ever applied for. It is common knowledge
“they” know how to get out of the country completely unchecked. In 2010, 30 ponies from Dartmoor turned up at
a market in Maurs, southern France (spotted by Equine Rescue France) in
appalling condition and were bought by Italian dealers to be destined for the
meat and skins market in Italy. Described
as "dead on their feet" and most with eye infections and a couple of them lame –
the dealer wanting 250 euros each for them.
A rare unexpected glimpse of a stopping point. These ponies have consistently been exploited
in what is most likely an underground trade linked to more serious crime – much
bigger than me, you, or the ponies themselves and with no government agency or
large organisation or Dartmoor agenda prepared to protect them, investigate, or
enforce the very legislation that is there to protect them.

Racehorses are being shipped from Ireland to the UK for
slaughter (as seen on Panorama). Ponies
are disappearing from here outwards – Ireland is the only word mentioned…it
could be a lot further than that. We
know that in 2018 as many ponies with Dartmoor Pony passports as Wetherby’s
racehorses were slaughtered in Ireland - 77.
Numbers with a Pet ID passport (general equines) were 52. By 2019 the total was 20 DP, 26 Pet ID…… Only
one slaughter plant is approved for equines in Ireland… so it seems Ireland may
not be the end destination…

Ponies on Dartmoor are being bred and disposed of without
any regard to responsibility for the long term future of these ponies. The market and county fair hype is a PR
façade. People reported more foals being
bred this year than for a long time – I’d encourage everyone to keep your eyes
open and start asking more questions.
In 2010 (13/10/2010) a prominent figure of the DHPA featured on BBC
Radio 4s Farming today programme about the ponies on Dartmoor and stated
categorically that Hill ponies DO NOT go for meat but are sold as riding
ponies…by the December of the same year their story was blown out of the water
by the national press…whistleblown - the papers revealed how more than 700
ponies had been shot that year alone.
Not all farmers are bad. We are
here to expose what needs to be exposed and ask questions on behalf of the
ponies who suffer at the hands of people who would have us believe they are
custodians of a breed…and that the ponies ALL go to good homes…

People4Ponies, a pony sanctuary
dedicated to helping wild and traumatised ponies, is calling for an end to the
"Chagford Drift Pony Sale", an annual auction of wild ponies taken
off Dartmoor. The call follows the 2021 auction that took place in October,
involving the sale of highly stressed and traumatised foals as young as four
months, taken away from their mothers and thrust into an unfamiliar and
frightening environment. Many of the ponies were in overcrowded pens, left for
hours in the full sun, most without food, and the majority without water with
only one seller out of the 20 listed having been seen to provide this.

People4Ponies has submitted a complaint (including video footage and report) to
Trading Standards, the UK government body responsible for monitoring and
investigating animal health and welfare of animals at markets.

The group also has concerns that no checks are carried out on the people
who buy the ponies to see if they are suitable for the responsibility of having
a pony. Footage taken of a teenage boy kicking a pony as the animal was loaded
onto a trailer raises serious questions regarding the fate of many of these
ponies.

The tourists who visit Dartmoor, are 'fed' the romantic and nostalgic picture
of the ponies roaming freely across the moor. This picture hides the stark
reality of what happens to the ponies: the extreme stress experienced by many
of these ponies at the auction, who only days before had been roaming freely on
Dartmoor. In the wild, foals can remain with their mothers until they are
around two years old, but most of those sold at the market were likely to have
been still suckling when they were taken away.

People4ponies is also very concerned about a report of 2 lorries of
ponies leaving for Ireland soon after the sale and they are appealing for more
information.

Spokesperson for People4Ponies, Faye Stacey stated:
’We are very concerned about an anonymous report of 2 lorries headed to
Ireland after the sale and we would appeal for more information—last year a
whole wild herd of Bodmin ponies disappeared and couldn’t be traced by the
authorities and a huge lorry was said to have also headed to Ireland.’

’The Welfare of Horses at Markets Act 1990 is supposed to
protect the ponies for sale. Ensuring they are prevented from suffering
thirst, not kept in overcrowded pens (there were 29 ponies in one of the pens)
and that they are not to be lifted off the ground or dragged by the head, neck,
ear, leg or tail. The need for water in particular is greater when the
individuals are in a highly stressful situation, as is the case at this Sale.
The market authority is required to ensure that an adequate supply of wholesome
water is available for horses and that adequate facilities in the form of
troughs, drinking bowls, buckets or other drinking devices are available for
watering horses. Sadly no-one was seen to enforce these regulations on
the day.’

’Literally anyone can buy a wild pony at a market – whether
they have any relevant knowledge, experience or not. It takes very
specialist skills to handle wild ponies, particularly the adults who will not
only be wild but will have been through unsympathetic handling and hot
branding. The average horse owner or riding school does not teach the
specialist skills and knowledge needed to tame these animals. To put
things into perspective the biggest charity in the country rehomes 300 horses
in a year after receiving training – here in the region of 330 wild horses were
sold in a day. Whilst some will have found good homes I worry about the
future of ponies such as the one captured in the footage being kicked by its
new owner.’

All ponies, whether registered (“pure-bred” ponies) or unregistered
(ponies such as Dartmoor Hill ponies with no pedigree), are supposed to be
legally protected under the Minimum Value Legislation to prevent them from
being exported from Britain to Ireland or Europe for slaughter. For any pony
under 14.2 hands high to be transported to Ireland or Europe they must have
documentation, which includes proof of their value of £300 for a pony between
12-14.2hh, £220 for a pony up to 12hh and £145 for Shetlands up to 10.2hh. An
export license is required, and a fitness to travel or health certificate
signed by a vet has to be included. If unregistered ponies are being travelled
to Europe then a Journey Log is also required which includes details of the
transit, stopping areas so that legal journey times are not exceeded, and a vet
is supposed to check the animals on departure and on arrival - but any pony
being travelled has to meet the minimum value requirements. There are now
new regulations that require more prechecks such as blood tests and quarantine
periods before horses can be transported.

Moor, Cornwall in July – about 80 ponies - mares, foals (many would have been
classed as unfit for travel) and stallions – all rounded up and, it is claimed, crammed into 1
lorry under the cover of darkness in the VERY early hours of the morning. Whilst no-one appears to have noticed a whole population on a Common missing or
even talked about it, I can’t let their story be unheard.

For years we have campaigned for the ponies on East Moor on
Bodmin Moor – fighting for laws to be enforced on a small area of land with
arguably the worst welfare record in the country.

With at least 3/4 of the 2020 pony population without
passports and microchips any sale of these ponies would have been illegal, movement of animals without identification is illegal – as
would any slaughtering for human consumption for those already over 6 months
old.

Over the years non enforcement of breaches of the Animal Welfare
Act, transport regulations, microchipping/passporting laws and the Bodmin
Commoners Act have effectively rendered the laws useless. Yet again the East Moor ponies have suffered – at least ponies 80 ponies
crammed into a lorry would have been terrifying – it is illegal.

What's worse is that Trading Standards seem (from their statement) to have known that something was planned to happen but did not ensure any enforcement. "We gave further formal advice to the farmer’s family on the welfare and identification requirements relating to the clearance and subsequent transportation of the ponies off the moor". “We are aware of the allegations relating to the transport of the ponies in question and have asked for evidence to be provided so that an investigation can take place. “We have not been provided with such evidence to allow us to take the matter any further".

It’s
about time people started asking questions and started talking about what
happens to our UK pony populations under the cover of darkness…

It’s NOT
ok that lorries disappear into the darkness at 2am laden with ponies with no
paperwork.

It’s NOT

It’s NOT
ok that other authorities suspect the ponies went abroad but there’s nothing they
can do to stop them.

It’s NOT
ok that it is suspected this kind of activity is linked to the drugs trade or money
laundering but there’s not enough evidence to pursue it because lorries are

What is
happening is illegal.

With no
Bodmin pony sale this year I have asked the Bodmin Commoners Council what is
happening to the ponies this autumn, what assurances are there that it is
happening legally and what guarantees are there that there isn’t going to be a
repeat performance of what has happened on East Moor on Bodmin. I have not yet received an answer to these
questions but we have noted ponies already gone from some areas within the last
two weeks so it is important these questions are asked.

neglect/starvation on East Moor and many more in need of help and this resulted
in large scale intervention with 2 round-ups with at least 42 ponies being
seized in emaciated condition…No one was ever brought to account. Large scale welfare crises had taken place before in previous years too - and no-one was ever brought to account then either.

A massive third round-up in 2016 on East Moor by the big charities drastically reduced numbers and the ID of ponies through microchipping was
hailed a great success…BUT…stallions and colts were turned back out with
mares…and since then with no round ups or maintenance, breeding was allowed to
happen indiscriminately.

This year numbers were up to nearly 100 ponies and the
conditions on East Moor returned to hostile and totally unmanaged with

towards a solution with the owner of the ponies. If the removal of a

fashion often endured the most appalling journey shipped abroad (for which all
sorts of paperwork and journey logs are supposed to be required but doesn’t

the horse meat scandal?).

I have been personally promised 3 times by 2 different Lords
of Defra that atrocities would not happen on this moor again…(twice those
promises failed and we kept going)... We’ve campaigned so hard through
incredibly difficult conditions on multiple occasions, helped contribute the
new laws that were introduced in the Bodmin Commoners Act to run alongside the
Animal Welfare Act, ID legislation and transport regulations. We even
conducted our own research into why such high proportions of the pony
populations die. East Moor typifies all that’s wrong with the animal welfare
justice system right now.

I NEVER want to see any ponies turned out on East Moor EVER
AGAIN – it and the people who are supposed to oversee it have consistently
killed more animals and allowed them to go through more unnecessary suffering
than any other area of land I know.

It's been a very hectic time these last few months as many of our close supporters know, with Ted and Jenny both being so unwell and trying to get them sorted out.

Topsy's been very lucky because Margaret has bought her a new snuggly rug with a special neck cover - an early Christmas present! And just in time too because the weather has been absolutely awful - rain, wind and gales pretty much constantly! Now where ever Topsy is she can be warm and cosy!

We are so very grateful to everyone who has helped us achieve our haymaking this year! We now have 785 bales stacked and safe in the barn and it is such a relief to have it all successfully completed!

There are so many people we need to thank - with Ted now unable to do the tractor work for the hay, and Faye's allergies making it very uncomfortable/difficult to breathe for weeks when handling newly made bales we relied heavily on outside help. Margaret wasn't able to do the food prep either so we needed a plan B and a change of roles!

Roger's cake reward!

Our neighbour Roger was fantastic and did all the cutting, turning and reweing, and fixed the flat 8, and for 2 nights brought his tractor and trailer to help load bales and bring them in for us so people could concentrate on stacking. This was such a huge undertaking and help for us, particularly when he had so many other things going on with his farm. He was unable to stay for the food too so we hope the cake we made him to say thank you goes some way to rewarding him for all his hard work!

Whilst Roger was busy in the field preparing the grass for us, we needed to get the barn ready for the incoming new crop. This meant a few days rearranging the barn and moving out A LOT of older and 2018 bales, cutting down any that had unusable bad ends and retying and then restacking again in the stable. Archie was my "right hand man" with this and we spent 3 days moving bales and fixing any subsidence issues in the old stack. We needed to fill any dangerous holes and take up all the old, loose hay which Margaret loaded up into huge dumpy bags.

We have a permanent hedgehog nest in our barn so we are used to building this in and working around them. On this occasion we also discovered a bumble bee nest and so there was much deliberation on whether we should try to relocate or move them. Thankfully we've been able to leave them where they were and build around them - probably the safest solution for the humans and the bees!

Thanks to Ted and Jenny, we ordered food and drinks to keep all the helpers provisioned...but helpers were proving extremely difficult to find - our thanks to Jane, Sharon and Izy for taking to Facebook in an effort to find us some help. With so little help coming forward but with with the weather thankfully set in our favour the only solution was to bring bales in over multiple evenings until we had it completed. Angela agreed to come for a couple of days from Cornwall to help with tractoring and moving bales.

Thursday Night Hay Crew: Lucie, Louise, Andy, Angela, Archie and Callum

On Thursday evening the hay was baled. Thankfully our helpers arrived! Archie brought his friend Callum along to help...and we were joined by Andy, Lucie and Louise from Witheridge and between them they managed to stack half the crop! It was so hot this evening - absolutely roasting and everyone worked so incredibly hard for us and they were determined not to stop and give up! It's amazing how a group of people who have never met before can come together like this and work so efficiently for a common cause. Great team work everyone!

The next day Archie and Angela helped me with the pony work in the morning and then over the course of the evening we were joined by Heather, Alex, Catherine, Victoria, Edward, Vicky, Jim and little Henry. By 8 O' Clock everything was stacked in the barn and we could at least reward our helpers with food - which was Faye's main task...as well as all the other pony work of course!

So...thank you again to everyone from the ponies...and to Ted and Jenny who donate the hay to the ponies meaning that we have a years worth of food for them - it is such a huge gift. Whatever the weather the ponies now have a fully stacked barn of best quality hay and they are very lucky ponies indeed!
A few weeks ago I nominated Margaret for one of the North Devon Volunteer Awards under the category of "Supporting Your Charity". The awards are to recognise the commitment and contribution of volunteers in our local community. Margaret's been volunteering for P4P for the last 12 years and so this was the perfect opportunity to ensure her work is recognised.

Very sadly, due to her operation which was planned at short notice, Margaret was unable to collect her award herself at the awards ceremony yesterday evening...so thank you very much to Izy who stepped in to collect the certificate on Margaret's behalf! I was able to stop off at Margaret's on the way back to the yard so she did at least still get her award on the same day!

There were over 200 people at the awards last night representing many different charities based in North Devon and lots of inspirational stories! Thank you very much to NDVS for their work organising the awards!

Thank you very much to Izy who sent Faye a present this week - a beautiful hand drawn portrait of Munchie as a way to remember him by - such a lovely idea. The postman bent it on delivery but hopefully it'll flatten out and we can frame it. Such a talented pet portrait artist - thank you to Matt of Matt's sketches for his work and to Izy of course for commissioning it!

Margaret is doing well after her operation and hopes to be back home soon. It'll still be a little while yet before she's back "ponying" again!
Babe is featured with a background of yellow buttercups for June. This pony is the super model of the pony world - she knows just how beautiful she is and really sends the boys into a spin! She is lucky enough to have a home with Frances and two of our ponies - Maisie and Jaffa. In this photo you can clearly see her brand mark... but we found that people always found it difficult to read and mis-read the letters even when in it was visible. It is still unbelievable that in this day of modern technology where we have facial recognition and the ability to track the tiniest of creatures...that it is still deemed essential/necessary to burn ponies with a red hot iron!

Our thoughts are with Margaret who is having an operation today, and Roy who is also recovering after an operation but feeling better. Feels like all the departments at the RD&E are being tested out at the moment!

Everyone's loving this month's calendar photo of Tasha and Muddy which they kindly sent us to be added onto the 2019 calendar - and how could we resist?! These two are very bonded and go on all kinds of adventures together! When they lived close to us they would come and visit and Muddy would come and say "hi" to his old mates. They've moved to North Devon now so I suspect Muddy might be making the most of some potential riding on the beach which I'm sure he will absolutely love!

When the original herd of over 50 ponies were living in the herd field Paul and Cilla would check the ponies everyday and count them to make sure they were all there. One day a pony was missing and upon searching they found (the then un-named) "Muddy" stuck in a bog, just disappearing under the surface. They were able to pull him out and took him back to the farm for some TLC. He was a youngster but had no Mum with him and it's possible that she had died before the herd was rescued. He's certainly grown into a very well-built, sturdy chap and I'm sure they'll have plenty more adventures to come!
We had some very sad news in mid-April regarding Folly, one of the original P4P herd members.

Folly has had a very loving home for a long while now and she has always been an important member of the family. She has been living with a lady called Faye (not P4P Faye) who first met Folly when she was 12 - Faye was at a friends house and was the first person to ever catch Folly in their field - she took her out for walks and they bonded. Folly then joined her pony and their little herd.

In December 2018 Folly had been diagnosed with cancer and had an operation to remove tumours. Very sadly, despite her family's best efforts, the tumours returned and very aggressively so - her family gave her the best quality of life for as long as they could and then in April the decision was made that it was time for her to be put to sleep.

We are very grateful to her family for having given Folly such a wonderful home. She was one of the very traumatised mares who had been ear-notched and had a lot of head trauma which Paul had to work through. Folly had to regain trust in people and she was very lucky to be able to spend some very happy years with her family.

Run free little Folly...Misty, Brenda, Gus, Mrs Brownhead (Tess), Tinker, Breeze and Munchie are over that "rainbow bridge" too...

Well...let's try to do a catch up! So April came and went just as quickly as March did...Jenny still recovering obviously after her accident and operation (and as of last night another ambulance trip to A&E for her, poor thing, but is home again now). As we are very short of regular helpers now, we are very grateful to Frances who managed to get over a couple of times to give Faye a hand on the heavier work jobs. It seems that just about everyone we know is poorly at the moment with some sort of serious ailment or another so we send out lots of "get well/healing" wishes!

The photo above should look familiar as it was taken in 2017 - after Jeremy disappeared from the nature reserve at Marsland Mouth (still incomprehensible!) we decided to bring the other ponies home as the site was no longer secure and we could not guarantee their safety. This photo captured the reuniting of friends back at the yard...the photo shows Puffin, Star and Breeze sniffing noses with Munchie, and then Wolfie and Dan in the background...a happy moment quite full of ponies and greetings! Little did we know that we would soon lose two of the ponies featured here - Breeze (to suspected herbicide poisoning on a different reserve the following year) and Munchie this year. Both were such big wonderful characters who had fan clubs of their own...ponies definitely have a way of melting your heart! People really feel they connect with them even if they have very short encounters.

Puffin

We've all been enjoying having Puffin on our calendars this month - a photo of him during his stay at Marsland Nature Reserve - he's a very handsome boy and you can definitely see he has Exmoor pony genes...and he always a super hairstyle!

To say that March has been challenging is probably an understatement!! You just never know what is around the corner...and for poor Jenny she fell two weeks ago and broke her leg/hip which was a very painful ordeal for her - when you see the scale of the injury it's clear that she was very brave indeed! We are so lucky to have the NHS for these trauma incidents and after a trip in an ambulance to A&E, within 24 hours Jenny had had a major operation to pin her hip and leg back together again. She is amazing us all with her recovery - and the hospital too who released her after just a week in the Royal Devon and Exeter. Jenny is well on the road to recovery now and hopefully it won't be too long until she is off her walking frame and back to walking independently again.

It was a daily 4 hour round trip to do visits to the hospital each day and all this co-incided with my mid-week volunteers having left to take up paid employment so it made for some very long days for Faye. Margaret came every day to help with the pony dinners and make sure Topsy got her extra feeds whilst we were out. It was such an exhausting time and it's still not really that long since we lost Munchie.

Last weekend the "cavalry" arrived - Katie came to us on her corporate charity day from the Oxford based solicitor firm where she works - such excellent timing as spring has definitely sprung and we needed to get all the fences up to make sure the ponies have their trackways in place - she had a blister by the end of the day poor thing but we really appreciated her help so much. On Saturday Nicole and Martin came down to help - again all the way from Oxford and by the Sunday we had Katie and her husband David, Margaret, and Nicole and Martin for the morning so it was great to have a big tidy up and get the barn rearranged and get things a bit more organised again after the mad time we've been having recently.

The lovely spring weather we've had this week means that things have started to dry up - 3 fields were rolled today - what a whirlwind!

Thank you to everyone for your supportive messages regarding Munchie. I'm really taken with how many hearts Munchie stole and how much of an impression he made on people, even if they'd only ever met him for a couple of hours! He really was very much a people pony and it seems that everyone who knew him, for whatever space of time, long or short, really did fall in love with him. Everyone is so kind in saying how much he was loved, and that he knew he was loved, and we really did give him the best quality of life possible with his (at times very complicated) health conditions. The herd have all coped very well and everything happened in a way that meant they got a chance to process what was happening - all are very relaxed.

A bit late for the posting of this one, but the calendar photo for February was Rocky prancing in the snow, with Munchie in the background. Whereas last year in February/March we were under siege from the "Beast From The East", this year we really have benefitted from an amazingly dry and beautiful 3 weeks of warm, mostly sunny weather. Quite a shock really, but very welcome to have some relief from the cold and the wet, and an unprecedented opportunity to roll the fields - never before have we done this in February! Thanks to the efforts of John and Martin the fields are looking much improved, even if only temporarily. We're also benefitting from all the extra visitors who have been coming to help and visit - Sam, Zoe with her dog Echo, Nicole and Martin, Frances, Izy, and Sue. Many hands make light work indeed! So lovely to have lunch out in the garden in the sunshine with our lovely pony shepherd dog by our side and Topsy joining in the garden party too - Martin even brought her a homegrown carrot from his allotment so she really did join in the picnic too!

Such a shame to have lost the weather now but not a surprise...now we are "battening down the hatches" in readiness for the weather warnings with Storm Freya...maybe March will come "In like a lion and out like a lamb"...

We are very sad to have to post that our lovely Munchie (Munchkin) had to be put to sleep yesterday afternoon. He has been a firm favourite with everyone here and is going to be very missed by his rather large fan club, being particularly well loved by our younger supporters. He was definitely a "people pony".

We really have done everything we could to help him - we've had a long, hard road helping him as he had to return from a loan home where he developed very complicated metabolic problems - he's taught me so much, particularly as he never conformed to any standard textbook guidance - definitely the opposite of everything for Munch, thinking "outside the box" was a necessity for looking after him. At least we managed to get him a couple more years of time with us.

12 days ago he started showing structural problems and despite all of our best efforts to help him, unfortunately there was something wrong in his nerves/back that we couldn't fix - - we tried so hard for him because he was so determined to be here...but after having showed some improvement, yesterday his hind legs were no longer working for him - neither us nor any specialists could help him and he showed us it was his time to go. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us during this time. We love you Munchie - your spirit, your determination, your affection, your mindfulness with people, your teaching, your gentle playfulness with the young humans, and your love of food...you can run free now lovely boy.
The weather forecasters were correct!!! Heavy snow started falling at about 3pm this afternoon and it hasn't stopped since! I managed to get a mountain of haynets ready this morning to make sure there's plenty to go around! Lots of feed bowls lined up to keep Topsy provisioned with snacks this evening! Will try to get more pics tomorrow...
Last night brought the first snow of 2019! The roads were too risky for our arranged volunteers to drive over...but this also meant that Archie had a snow day - school was cancelled so he came for a morning of ponying instead! Well done Archie!
